Morocco Equity Markets | 21 Mar 2016: Moroccan Stocks Climb to 7-Month High, Led by Lafarge
Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa —Casablanca Stock Exchange witnessed positive return at the end of Monday’s equity trading session. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) went up 1.21 percent to end at 9,409.94 points (with a year-to-date performance to 5.43 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 471.621 billion (a fall of MAD 4.84 billion or US$28 million relative to previous market capitalization of MAD 466.778). The market activity measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 201.031 million.
The Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,688.20 points (grew by 1.26 percent relatively to the previous trading session), highest intraday level since August 25. However, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index lost 0.49 percent to close at 8,248.40 points (11.10 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index advanced by 1.38 percent to end at 7,956.20 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to 6.34 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Construction & Building, Mining and Chemicals sector indices grew by 7.26 percent, 6.73 percent, and 2.72 percent respectively. On the south pole, Food Producers & Processors sector index (fell by 2.06 percent to close the year-to-date performance at 8.91 percent), Holding Companies sector index (lost 1.80 percent to end at 7.35 percent year-to-date return) and Investment Companies & Other Finance sector index (dropped 1.47 percent to end at 8,346.50 levels).
Looking at the market price gainers and losers, the top gainers’ were MINIERE TOUISSIT added 10.00 percent to end at MAD 1,133.00 and LAFARGE grew by 10.00 percent to settle at MAD 1,837.00. HOLCIM advanced by 9.89 percent or MAD 180.00 with a closing price of MAD 2,000.00 and MANAGEM climbed by 6.00 percent to end at MAD 569.20. M2M Group surged by 5.11 percent to close at MAD 247.00.
On the decliners’ team, EQDOM and STROC INDUSTRIE dropped 5.71 percent (to close at MAD 825.00) and plunged by 4.41 percent (to trade at MAD 54.00) respectively. COSUMAR and IB MAROC slumped by 3.06 percent (with a closing price of MAD 190.00) and dropped 2.19 percent (to end at MAD 55.00) respectively. AFMA sagged by 2.15 percent to end at MAD 728.00.
